Leagues and the Legend board

A league is a small, friendly race that lasts one week. Play puzzles, earn points, and finish near the top to move up a tier.

Joining a league

Leagues are opt-in. You'll see a "Join a league" card in the Leagues tab. To join you need to sign in with Apple, which lets Spellhunt check your times fairly, and confirm you're 13 or older. You'll also be asked once to pick a name for the boards: 3 to 16 letters, numbers or underscores. Skip it and you appear as "A player".

Everyone starts in Bronze. A league forms once at least 10 players are waiting in the same tier and language, and it fills up to 30. If you join late in the week, from Thursday on, you're placed in a league that starts the next Monday, with a countdown until then, so you never start a race half over.

Every player in your league is a real person. Spellhunt never fills a league with bots. When a tier is too quiet to make a league of 10, players are grouped with the tier next to theirs, and everyone still moves relative to their own tier.

The league week

A league week runs from Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 UTC, shown in your local time. The league table shows where you stand, with three zones: the promotion zone at the top, the demotion zone at the bottom, and safe in between.

In the last three days of the week, if you're in the demotion zone, a calm banner tells you how many puzzles would get you to safety and how many days are left. No alarms, no countdown clocks.

How league points are earned

• The Daily adds your full Daily score. It's the biggest single source of points, so the Daily matters most.
• Campaign puzzles add 50 points each.
• Boss puzzles add more: 225, 300 or 375 points for one, two or three stars.

Up to 10 campaign puzzles a day count toward your league, and one boss among them. That keeps the race about playing well each day rather than playing all night. The scoring guide explains the Daily score, and solving the Daily faster is the surest way to raise it.

League points are checked on our server, and they count toward the week in which the server checks the solve.

Sunday results

When the week closes, the top of each league moves up a tier and the bottom moves down. In a full league of 30, the top 7 are promoted and the bottom 5 are demoted. Smaller leagues move proportionally fewer players. If two players tie on points, the one who joined the league first ranks higher. A player with no points is never promoted.

A promotion earns you 150 coins and a promotion card you can share. Either way, you'll see a short "Your week" card with your words found, best Daily time, streak and places gained.

The six tiers

6. Legend

Bronze players can't drop any lower, and Legend players can't go any higher. Legend has something the other tiers don't.

The Legend board

Once you reach Legend, you're on the Legend board: every Legend player in your language ranked together by the points they've earned this week. The board shows the top 500 ("Legend · Top 500"), and your own row always appears, wherever you rank. It resets each week with the leagues.
