Playing with friends

The Daily is the same puzzle for everyone, which makes it perfect for a little friendly rivalry. Here's how to find your people and compare notes.

Invite a friend with a link

Most people don't have Game Center friends, so Spellhunt uses a plain link. In the Leagues tab, tap Invite a friend and send the link however you like: Messages, WhatsApp, email. It looks like spellhunt.app/f/ followed by a short code.

When your friend opens it with Spellhunt installed, you become friends both ways. The first time each of you joins up through an invite link, you both get a streak freeze. Invite links expire after 7 days, so send a fresh one if an old link doesn't work.

Your friend needs to be signed in with Apple to accept. If they aren't yet, the app asks them to, which takes a few seconds. If they don't have Spellhunt, the link opens a page on this website with a link to the App Store. Once it's installed, tapping the link again opens the app.

Add your Game Center friends

Already use Game Center? On the friends board, tap Add Game Center friends. Spellhunt looks for your Game Center friends who also play and adds them. It uses their Game Center IDs only to find matches and doesn't keep your friends list.

The friends board

The friends board, under Leagues, shows today's Daily time for you and each friend, with "Not solved yet" for anyone who hasn't played. When a friend beats your time, Spellhunt can let you know with a notification like "Sarah beat your time today (1:31). Your move."

The board needs you to be signed in, since it compares ranked times that our server has checked.

After every Daily you can share your result. The share card shows the day, your time, your percentile, your streak and one small mark per word in the order you found them: a clean find, a find with a hint, or the bonus word. It never shows a letter, a position or the word list, so it's safe to post before your friends have played.

Along with the card comes a few lines of text for apps that prefer words: the Daily's date, your time and percentile, a row of colored squares for your finds, your streak, and a link. The link opens that same Daily, so a friend with Spellhunt installed goes straight to the puzzle.

Solve Replay videos

After a Daily, tap Save replay video and Spellhunt makes a short vertical video of your solve: your swipes played back at speed, with letters blurred until each word is found, ending on your share card. Save it to Photos, share it anywhere, or send it to Instagram Stories if you use Instagram. It's made on your phone. Spellhunt only asks to add to your photo library, never to read it.

More things to share

League promotion. Move up a tier and you get a card to share.
Your week. A Sunday card with the week's words found, best Daily time, streak and places gained.
Chapter postcards. Finish a campaign chapter and its picture joins your gallery, ready to send as a postcard.
